We are seeking individuals to fill the following roles:

Design Engineer, EI

Clapsaddle-Garber Associates (CGA) seeks a full-time Design Engineer, EI in our Marshalltown office.  We are a growing civil engineering and land surveying firm based in Central Iowa for over 55 years.  We are looking for an innovative, motivated, and entrepreneurial individual to assist in the planning, design, and construction of Civil Engineering projects throughout Iowa.  Our Team Members work on a wide variety of large and small projects such as streets, subdivisions, site designs, airports, storm and sanitary sewer, water resources, and water/wastewater projects.

In this role you will work with a team of other like-minded individuals to prepare and review conceptual plans, estimates, designs, drawings and specifications for public infrastructure projects.  You may also be exposed to civil/site land development projects as workload dictates.  You will function under the supervision of a Professional Engineer/Project Manager, but considerable leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative.

         Minimum Qualifications:

    • Graduation from an accredited four (4) year college or university with a Bachelor of Science or higher degree in an ABET-accredited civil engineering program.
    • Possession of an engineer intern (EI) certificate issued by the State of Iowa or the ability to obtain one within six months of employment.
    • Shall possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license (without insurance restrictions) issued by the State of Iowa.
    • Proficiency in Civil 3D and the use of computerized office equipment and programs, including MS Office, MS Windows, and BlueBeam products.
    • Ability to apply engineering principles to practical engineering problems; to relate abstract ideas to actual needs and adopt an effective course of action.
    • Ability to perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines.
    • Ability and willingness to quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and/or technology.
    • Ability to coordinate the activities of engineering technicians, ability to manage multiple tasks; ability to communicate and cooperate with officials, subordinates, clients and contractors.
    • Strong written and oral communication skills.

Receptionist/Administrative Assistant

 

Clapsaddle-Garber Associates (CGA) seeks a full-time Administrative Office Assistant.  We are a growing civil engineering and land surveying firm operating in central Iowa for over 55 years.  We are looking for candidates in our Ackley office.  We work on a wide variety of large and small projects ranging from small residential and commercial site plans, to large 80+ acre industrial and residential subdivisions, to agricultural drainage projects, to municipal engineering, to locally and federal aid funded highway and street projects.

The ideal candidate will be able to perform a wide range of administrative and office support activities for the company to facilitate the efficient operation of the organization.  The candidate will have strong organizational and communication skills, be detailed oriented, and the ability to take direction.

         Minimum Qualifications:

    • Graduation from High School.
    • Possess 6-months to one year of administrative or related experience.
    • Ability to answer a multi-line phone system with excellent phone etiquette.
    • Possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with all levels of internal management and staff, as well as outside clients and customers.
    • Be proficient in the use of computerized office equipment and programs, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, Acess and Adobe products.
    • Ability to type with speed and accuracy.
    • Highly motivated, resourceful and able to work independently with minimal direction.
    • Coordinates and manages filing systems, office and survey supplies, and building permits.
    • Other duties as assigned.
    • AA Degree in Executive Assistant or Administrative Assistant, preferred.
    

Survey Technician

 

Clapsaddle-Garber Associates (CGA) seeks full-time Entry Level Survey Technician to work in our Marshalltown office.  We are a growing civil engineering and land surveying firm based in Central Iowa Central Iowa for over 55 years.  CGA deploys experienced field crews state-wide, daily.  We are looking for you to assist the Lead Surveyor or Land Surveyor Party Chief in completing survey work.  We work on a wide variety of large and small projecs ranging from small residential and commercial site plans, to large 80+ acre industrial and residential subdivisions, to local funded and federal aid highway and street projects.

The ideal candidate will possess some amount of land surveying experience.  While individuals with prior land surveying experience are preferred, individuals that exhibit a strong work ethic and willingness to learn will be considered.  You must possess a valid Driver's license.

Primary responsibilities will include working with our field survey crews on a variety of surveying actvivities from construction to boundary surveys.  Additionally, you will work directly with senior staff in reviewing field notes and assuming constrution calculations are developed/correct.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical and judgment capabilities
  • Knowledge of basic math and the types of measurements related to land surveying including linear, angular, elevations and unit systems conversion including knowledge of geometry, trigonometry and algebra
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team with co-workers and managers
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
  • Ability to work extended hours including Saturdays and ability to travel out of town for extended periods of time on an as needed basis
  • Proficient in the use of computerized office equipment and programs, including MS Office Suite and Adobe products
  • Highly motivated, resourceful and able to work independently with minimal direction
  • Must be capable of working in rough terrain and inclement weather and lifting 50-75 pounds

Preferred Requirements:

  • AA Degree in Construction, Civil Engineering Technology Degree or any other technical degree in a related field or equivalent work experience
  • Knowledge of the operation and maitenance of survey instrucments such as transits, levels, distance meters, planimeters, and theodolites
  • Knowledge of information sources used to determine land ownership and location of telephone and power cables, water and gas mains
  • Familiarity with GPS, Robotic, Total Stations, Data Collectors and Levels preferred
  • Prior experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroSation
