Community Y Master Plan

A bequest of nearly $30 million from the late Virginia Horne Henry created a exceptional opportunity for the Community Y (YMCA and YWCA) of Marshalltown to play a major role in the quality of life in the community. Clapsaddle-Garber Associates lead a team of experts to prepare a Master Plan for the Community Y to maximize the impact of the gift. The Master Plan process involved extensive public involvement to assess the community needs and to maximize the opportunity for partnering with other entities. Utilizing the public input, program needs were identified and prioritized. An assessment of existing facilities and required facilities to accommodate the programs provided the basis for development of a "Y Campus." The conclusion of the Master Plan provided an operating budget and implementation plan for the facilities that were constructed. The late Ms. Henry was a native of Marshalltown. Her gift was in appreciation for the life long benefits that she received from her experiences at the "Y".
