Marshalltown Center Street Project

Marshalltown IowaThe project will include improvements to the Center Street corridor from State Street on the north to Linn Street on the south.  Primary improvements will include replacing the two grate intakes in the outer lanes of Center Street just north of Linn Street; installing curb and gutter and reshaping street cross-sections to assist surface water runoff; installing curb intakes and storm sewer collection systems throughout the corridor; replacing and/or repairing portions of the sidewalk and curb ramps; replacing driveway turnouts; replacing street lights; and resurfacing the alley located on the east midblock between State Street and Main Street.

The following information is provided to make property owners, residents, store patrons, and the general public aware of the construction schedule, and help them travel the area during construction.  Check back for updates to this information.

Construction has progressed along both sides of Center Street from Linn Street to Main Street.  Rain and utility conflicts have continued to delay the project.  During the upcoming week the contractor will be preparing the subgrade from Linn to Church for paving.  It is anticipated that Church Street will be reopened upon completion of this portion of paving.

Storm sewer installation from Church to Main has been completed, construction of curb and gutter and sidewalk will continue throughout the upcoming week.

Construction has progressed along both sides of Center Street from Linn Street to the First Presbyterian Church on the west side and from Linn Street to Wells-Fargo on the east side.  Rain and utility conflicts have continued to delay the project.  During the upcoming week the contractor will be wrapping up work on the current block and may begin to move onto the Church to Main block.

Center Street from Linn to Church will remain CLOSED to through traffic until a utility relocation is completed, targeted for the beginning of next week.  The Church Street intersection will remain CLOSED until all work has been completed in the immediate area, reopening in late June – early July.

PLEASE NOTE:  CENTER STREET ACCESS TO THOMPSON’S TRUE VALUE IS STILL AVAILABLE FROM THE SOUTH.

Construction has progressed along both sides of Center Street from Linn Street to Thompson’s True Value on the west side and from Linn Street to Wells-Fargo on the east side.  The project was delayed by rain at the beginning of the week.

It is anticipated that the Church Street intersection will be CLOSED beginning Tuesday, May 25.  Construction will most likely continue to progress up the east side of Center Street near Wells-Fargo and up the west side of Center Street by the First Presbyterian Church by the end of the week.

The Church Street intersection will be CLOSED until all work has been completed in the immediate area, reopening in mid to late June.

Construction is scheduled to begin next Monday, May 10, 2010.  The contractor will typically begin at the south end of each block and work northward performing the demolition a few days prior to installation of the storm sewer.  The general construction schedule per block is as follows:

May 10 - June 8
Linn to Church

June 4 - June 25
Church to Main

June 23 - July 12
Main to State

July 13
Striping & Traffic Control Removal

This schedule will be updated as necessary to account for any delays, weather related or otherwise.

The construction contract was awarded to Brycon, LLC of Marshalltown.  The scheduled start date is May 3rd, 2010.  The project schedule will include 60 calendar days for construction to be completed.
