Skunk River Pedestrian Trail and Bridge

In an effort to create a more walkable community, the City of Story City had committed to constructing miles of trails along the Skunk River and into a newly developed residential area.  The final piece was the construction of a pedestrian bridge over the Skunk River near the middle and high school baseball fields.  This 170 foot steel truss pedestrian bridge was partially funded by Transportation Enhancement funds and an Iowa DNR REAP grant.  The project also included stabilization of the river bank, PCC trail construction, and fencing.  The project was designed according to the Iowa DOT project development schedule and bid in October of 2011.  Construction started in April of 2012 and was completed in July.  The final project cost was $350,000.

CGA provided design and construction observation services for the City of Story City.  Due to the partial funding with federal dollars, construction administration and funding administration were also part of services CGA performed.  A DOT audit of the project was done in August of 2012 and the city received their final reimbursement from the DOT in September.
