Tama County L AvenueCGA began working with the Tama County Engineer's office on the design of roadway improvements to 1.71 miles of L. Avenue located on the east side of Toledo in 2009. The improvements were spurred by a new interchange with Highway 30 designed by the Iowa DOT. The existing roadway consists of a narrow and hilly gravel road located within a narrow right of way. CGA coordinated the alignment, profile, and ROW of the improvements with the IDOT and Tama County while maintaining adequate clearances for the Toledo Municipal Airport located on the north end of the project. Tasks included topographic survey, horizontal and vertical design to accommodate a 22' wide roadway with 6' shoulders at 45 mph, laying out a new ROW corridor, sloping temporary construction easement areas with consideration to land use after construction as well as borrow needs, culvert design, Plat preparation, Temporary Easement preparation, Drainage Easements documentation, and two sets of construction drawings using the IDOT standard specifications. The project will be constructed in two phases with the first phase being grading and the second phase being paving. Construction costs for both phases are estimated at $1.7 million.
