Westwood Drive

This two mile project developed a permanent pavement with accompanying sidewalk, stormwater and drainage improvements on a collector street in the southwest corner of Marshalltown.  The existing roadway was a narrow, steeply rolling, sealcoated street that presented a maintenance and safety problem to the City and residents.  Impending residential development west of the area showed a needed improvement to carry the increased traffic flow, as well as provide for the current residents.

The adjacent properties are primarily residential, with some agricultural and recreational.  Minimizing right of way requirements was of primary concern in the established neighborhoods.  The resulting design incorporated retaining walls and other considerations necessary to preserve trees and reduce impacts on residential front yards.
