The City of Ackley was awarded $500,000 for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) projects through The Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA). The City plans to use these funds for Wastewater Plant Improvements with local sources providing another $1,484,000 for the project.
CGA assisted the City with the application process and has been an integral part of their Capital Improvement Planning for several years. The application was filed on April 1, with the award made in June. CDBG environmental approval is expected on August 8th. Once this is received, the project will move into the bidding stage.
CDBG funds enable communities to make needed improvements to water and sewer systems, improve housing conditions for low-income homeowners, provide facilities for disabled and at-risk individuals, and make transformative downtown improvements. The City of Ackley’s Wastewater Plant Improvements are needed to bring it up to code and to maintain the safety and wellbeing of the community’s residents.
The CDBG program is federally funded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. IEDA is responsible for administering the CDBG funds in the non-metropolitan areas of the state.
