Streets &
Transportation

CGA has extensive experience designing, developing plans, administering construction, and inspecting transportation improvement projects throughout the state of Iowa. Each project’s approach, budget, schedule, and construction administration process is tailored to the client and the specifics of the project. CGA has been involved with many projects that have required coordination with the Iowa DOT and the use of their standards and bid letting process.

Common Issues
vs. the CGA Solution

CGA will work to identify key issues on each project and identify how to proactively manage those issues. A recurring theme on many issues is that they can be minimized through communication.

Communication is our strength and we will capitalize on that strength to minimize and reduce frustration with project issues. Please see below how we approach common issues with streets and transportation projects.

CGA Solution Staged construction and upfront communication with property owners to determine which accesses are critical and how best to minimize inconvenience to property owners, yet still be fair to Contractors and cognizant of Project Costs.

CGA Solution Communication. Unfortunately, this is common in many projects. Even if an adjacent property owner is not in favor of the project, communication that is accurate, understandable to the general public, and timely can minimize problems during construction that may arise as a result of unhappy adjacent property owners.

CGA Solution Progress meetings and Centralized Information. We will work with the jurisdiction to establish a method of communication with the various stakeholders at appropriate project milestones and intervals. During construction, we typically hold progress meetings and provide meeting minutes that are distributed to project stakeholders.

CGA Solution Paving/overlaying half-width to provide pilot car and one-lane traffic at all times.

CGA Solution CGA has many staffing resources, many of whom are happy and willing to work overtime when the need arises. Our system of project scheduling allows us to pull resources from projects with more cushioned deadlines to put additional staff on a single project to produce quicker turnarounds to meet tight project deadlines. Our work with flood control in the Cedar Valley is one example of our quick action when needed. During a flooding event, such as the 2016 and 2008 floods, our quick action made the difference by saving hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage.
