As members of the Iowa League of Cities, we had the privilege of attending their annual conference again this past September. The conference brings together hundreds of city officials and administrators from all over Iowa to network and attend educational sessions, and we loved having this year’s conference so close to our Cedar Falls office!
We once again showcased our engineering, land surveying, and planning services at an exhibit booth and thoroughly enjoyed the conversations we had with the numerous city clerks, council members, mayors, and other city administrators and city officials who stopped by. This conference is one of our best opportunities to learn about what is important to one of our key demographics: Iowa communities. By way of a raffle drawing, we asked for feedback on the question “What is your biggest public works issue that needs to be addressed in the next 12-24 months”, and while everyone didn’t fill out the information, those that did respond continued to have these listed as their top two.
Issue One: Road Repairs and/or New Road Construction
Street repair has been a top issue during the four years we have been tracking our survey results! From small road resurfaces to new subdivision developments, our design and construction administration teams have extensive experience with streets and transportation projects, and our survey crews are well-versed in construction staking! The CGA team also has a long-standing relationship with the Iowa DOT. If you have a street project coming up in 2023 and need a helping hand, fill out the contact form below!
Issue Two: Water Quality Projects
Iowa municipalities find the operation and maintenance of their wastewater collection and treatment facilities to be a top priority. Excessive infiltration and inflow in aging systems is costly and opens your community’s risk for backups. Iowa cities are further challenged by financial limitations, inability to sustain community-wide systems, inability to attract and maintain system operators, lack of managerial training and consistency, weather conditions, and geographic isolation. For over 60 years CGA engineers have assisted Iowa communities with assessing, planning, financing options, designing, and constructing their sanitary sewer collection and treatment facilities. Our engineers understand the needs of Iowa communities and are happy to help you plan your next wastewater project.
