Mindy Bryngelson, P.E., Celebrating 20 Years, January, 2020
What is your first memory or a memorable project/experience at CGA?
The first project that I ever designed as a new EI (at that time we were referred to EITs or “Engineers in Training”) was the Heart of Iowa Nature Trail between Collins and Maxwell in Story County. It was a rail to trail project made possible by the State Recreational Trail Fund administered by the IDOT. I worked on several phases of the trail including reconstructing a portion taken out by river flooding. https://www.mycountyparks.com/county/story/Park/Heart-of-Iowa-Nature-Trail.aspx
What’s been the most challenging part of your job?
Communication. The variety of personalities that we serve internally and externally make for constant adjustment in communication style. It doesn’t matter how great of a job we do “engineering” if we can’t communicate our intent to others.
What’s been the most rewarding part of your job?
People. I get the opportunity to meet, learn about, work with, and serve so many people each and every day. There is so much more to this industry than what you are taught in school and taking a step back to look at the impact we are able to have on people’s day-to-day lives is amazing.
What has contributed to your loyalty to CGA for so many years?
CGA has allowed me the opportunity to grow my career in my own way. This company has been flexible enough to allow me to take a few steps back when I needed it raising young kids and to provide me support when I wanted to take on new challenges.
What’s something about you that we may not know (personal or professional)?
I come from a long line of hard-working farmers and laborers in rural Iowa and am the first person to hold a Bachelor’s Degree in my family.
