CGA partnered with Landscape Architect Zach Heitzman to complete site design and landscaping for two multi-use student housing developments in Campustown, Ames.

The team created a site design to complement the twenty-foot elevation change from north to south while accommodating pedestrian pass-through traffic using a combination of sidewalks, stairs, and ramps for an aesthetically pleasing connection to the Iowa State University Campus within very tight site parameters.

The two projects were completed tangentially from 2013 – 2017 to transform the block along the Lincoln Way Corridor. The team coordinated with the city to rebuild public sidewalks around the block and to relocate and improve vehicle access points to the site. An existing 15’ tall PCC retaining wall was examined and incorporated into a new tuck-under parking garage to ensure stability to the street and utilities above.
