CGA Project 1649

CGA completed analysis, design, and construction administration for streambank restoration and new pedestrian bridges in the City of Story City’s North Park in 2019. The deteriorated wooden pedestrian bridges were replaced with new steel bridges to improve pedestrian access throughout the park.

CGA worked with the vendor, a local light manufacturer, and a local electrician on a custom bridge design to accommodate lighting and wiring within the steel members.  In the evening, the new bridges compliment the lighting on the historic swinging bridge located in the adjacent park.  The eroded streambank was reshaped and armored with revetment and native grasses in a manor to minimize disturbances without raising flood elevations during high flows.  In time, the deep root structure of the native grass and flowering stream buffer will add additional charm to the meandering stream while stabilizing the soil and filtering runoff into the stream.
